Carien is a ceramic artist who works with local clay and natural materials collected along the banks of the IJssel River. She creates her own glazes and pigments from these materials, producing ceramics inspired by the landscape around her and characterised by soft, natural tones.

Project details

I visited Carien at her studio near Deventer to photograph her process, from gathering wild clay along the riverbanks to working at the wheel and styling her finished pieces.
